How to Split a PDF

  1. Upload PDF: Drag and drop your PDF file into the upload area, or click to select a file from your device.
  2. Choose split method:
    • Extract page range: Enter specific pages or ranges like "1-3, 5, 8-10" to extract into a single PDF.
    • Split every N pages: Divide the PDF into equal chunks — useful for splitting a 12-page document into 4 files of 3 pages each.
    • Split all pages: Create one separate PDF file for each page in the document.
  3. Split: Click "Split PDF" to generate the output files. Multiple files will download as a ZIP archive.

  • Split a report: Divide a quarterly report into monthly sections
  • Separate scans: If you scanned multiple documents together, split them back out
  • Remove pages: Extract all pages except the ones you don't want, then re-merge
  • Create handouts: Split a presentation PDF into individual slide PDFs

Tips

  • Page numbering: Page numbers start from 1, not 0
  • Range syntax: Use commas to separate multiple ranges: 1-3, 7, 10-15
  • Remove unwanted pages: To remove pages, extract the ranges you want to keep, then merge them
  • Large PDFs: Splitting large PDFs may take a moment — processing happens locally so speed depends on your device

Privacy & Security

Your files are never uploaded to any server. The split operation runs entirely in your browser using JavaScript and the pdf-lib library. No data leaves your device at any point during the process.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I split a password-protected PDF?

No. Password-protected PDFs cannot be processed by this tool. Remove the password protection first using a PDF editor, then split here.

How do I extract just one page?

Use "Extract page range" and enter the single page number (e.g. 5). Click Split PDF to download a PDF containing just that page.

What does "split every N pages" do?

It divides the PDF into chunks of N pages. For example, a 10-page PDF split every 2 pages produces 5 files of 2 pages each. If the total pages don't divide evenly, the last file will contain the remaining pages.

How many files can I get from splitting?

There's no hard limit. A 100-page PDF split by all pages produces 100 individual PDFs, bundled into a ZIP file.

Can I select non-consecutive pages?

Yes! Use the range syntax with commas: 1, 3, 5-8, 12 will extract pages 1, 3, 5, 6, 7, 8, and 12 into a single PDF in that order.
